Back in the Spring 2018, I was a Technology Corporate Recruiter for a Fortune 500 Company, on a mission to hire rising seniors for our summer internship program. It was a daunting task, with over 500 resumes flooding in from top colleges for just six internship slots in IT. To make things worse, I also had to actively recruit for 30+ other open IT positions. Talk about pressure!
But I didn’t let the stress get to me (ok, some days it did). Instead, I decided to take an agile approach to fill these roles in under 30 days. You might be thinking, “Agile? That’s just a buzzword!” But trust me, it’s more than that. It’s like being an agile surgeon, but for recruitment. So, I got pre-screening questions from each IT manager and used “Skype for Business” (back when Zoom was still a baby) to record my 1:1 interviews with the candidates, which the managers could then review. The result? We filled the positions and received excellent feedback from the hiring managers.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Agile? More like fragile, am I right?” But hear me out. Agility is about being able to move quickly, easily, and gracefully, like a cat on a hot tin roof. It’s about being resourceful and adaptable, like a MacGyver with a laptop. In fact, if MacGyver (not MacGruber) were a recruiter, he’d probably be the most agile recruiter out there.
So, if you’re a recruiter or hiring manager looking to improve your recruitment process, take a page out of MacGyver’s book and get agile. It’s not just a trend, it’s a way of life. And if you need a little help, why not schedule a 15-minute call with us?
